Applying Strip Lashes: My Top Three Tips + Tricks

Aside from the obvious (apply 1-2 coats of mascara beforehand and wait 60 seconds for the glue to dry), here are some tips that will hopefully make applying falsies less maddening. As with anything, practice makes perfect, so my first piece of advice is to try, try again if you don't succeed the first or second time around. I promise it gets easier the more you do it. With that said, continue reading for my top 3 tricks and tips for seamless lash application:

1. Trim to fit your eye shape (and/or desired effect)

If you shy away from false lashes because they make your eyes look droopy or sleepy, that may be because you're not trimming them to fit your eye shape. If you have round, deep-set eyes, cut dramatic full strip lashes just a little short of your natural lash line and instead of applying stark from the inside corner, center the strip on your lash line. If the lashes are a more natural style, you can allow the band to follow the entire lash line. If you want to lift the eye, cut your strip in half and apply to the outer corner only, creating a winged effect  also a great way to recycle your well-loved lashes.

2. Use tweezers to apply

Using tweezers instead of your fingers alone will allow for more precise application. You'll be able to line the band up closer to your natural lash line. I like to start by placing the middle of the band down in the center and then securing the corners down (the order really comes down to preference, but I'll typically secure the outer corner first and then the inner corner). After I've placed the strip down and while the glue is still tacky, I'll flip the tweezers on the horizontal edge and use them to gently squeeze the strip and my natural lashes together.

3. Line your upper waterline

Even when I feel like I've gotten the lash band as close to my lash line as possible, I still sometimes notice a gap in between the strip and my natural lash line. In order to prevent this and help the falsies blend better with my natural lashes, I line my upper waterline with a black kohl liner. My personal favorite is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion.

Are you a pro at applying falsies? If so, please share some of your tips in the comments!
